I have some friends in the south who actually do look like that...
In light of the fact that we are soon leaving the deep south I wanted to share this story which sums up our experience here in Nashville.
I have a dude who fixes my cars who would be probably placed in the "redneck" category if I was into putting people into those categories. He honestly reminds me of the guy from King of the Hill who has such a strong southern drawl that you have no idea what he is saying. He needs subtitles. That is what this guy is like. He is a great guy and does a great job fixing my cars for cheaper than I would pay at a standard garage. One day I picked up my car after he fixed a few things on it and he gave me a simple reciept where he outline what he did. He wrote a few small things down then he made this comment: "Tried to fix the air compressor but it can't be fixed", but instead of spelling the word "can't" correctly he spelled it in the southern fried, been living in the south with this strong accent too long, phonetic spelling of C-A-I-N-T. "...but it caint be fixed". That's right, caint, rhymes with paint. When I read that I knew I wasn't in Iowa anymore.
